It's an excellent time to be a triathlete looking for wheels, because the available technology is better than it's ever been. But the plethora of options also makes it a very daunting task. In this review, I take a very deep look at Zipp's full lineup for 2012, including the 303 Firecrest, 404 Firecrest, 808 Firecrest, and the Super-9 Disc. I'm breaking down what it is that makes each of these wheels unique, and present recommended wheelset combinations for different kinds of athletes. This is TriRig's most thorough review of Zipp product to date, and we believe it will be a useful resource for the curious athlete.
The 303 (right) gives up just a single watt compared to the 404 (left), making it a compelling choice for riders in windy or hilly environments. Personally, I love the snappy ride of the 303, and can see it replacing the 404 as the do-it-all choice for many athletes.
