Lots of goodies out at Ironman Village at the World Championship 2017 expo here in Kona, Hawaii. Enjoy the gallery!

Quintana Roo PRSix Disc

QR has gone disc brake with its popular PRSix platform. I continue to feel that discs aren't the ideal choice until tire size hits about 30-32mm. But other manufacturers continue to explore this space.

SwissSide Aero Stick

Real-time aero analysis is a growing segment of the tri market, akin to where power meters were 10-15 years ago. There are now a few of these in development, from AlphaMantis, Argon18, and now SwissSide. It will be interesting to see where this goes.

Airstreeem Super Plus TT

Airstreeem (yes, that's three E's in a row) is a small company making this new bike launched at Kona. The good news is that it does a good job of hiding cables, and it has a novel system for disconnecting brake cables. But otherwise I find it a bit lackluster. Check the individual captions for more.

  • Very much a traditional double-diamond form, with integrated storage behind the stem and on the down tube. So far so good.
  • The aerobar is a nice deep-section with some fore-aft adjustment, but the cups are basically FLAT and don't wrap your arm at all. Moreover, the pads aren't available yet, so they just put BARE GRIP TAPE on top of the carbon. Basically like riding on sandpaper, with zero cushion.
  • Bare grip tape on hard carbon, not too comfy. Eventually the pads will be ready, but the cups are FLAT, so you might slide right off of them.

  • Next up, the integrated hydration - it's a MASSIVE bottle. Why do all the work to narrow your bike if you're going to put this boat up front? I'd recommend a traditional BTA bottle on this bike, despite the manufacturer's (dubious) claim that this bottle improves high-yaw performance.
  • Ugh. Another behind-the-fork V-brake. This brake style is just awful. It's difficult to route, adjust, and center. And it limits tire size. See how that cable link is basically toughing the tire? Not good.
  • Integrated storage box - this one is nice, no complaints here.
  • Interesting color options.
