BMC Time Machine 01 » BMC also released their new Time Machine 01 and 02 bikes. The thing is a UCI-legal rig, very clean when all put together. It does look like quite a bear to work on, however. The brakes are set up with an extremely complicated cam system in the stem unit, that with practice, can take 'only' 20 minutes to take apart for travel, according to BMC. Other than the potential mechanical difficulty, it does look like a very clean setup.

As usual, the Ironman Village had a ton of lovely equipment on display at the World Championships expo. But this year, there's a particularly high volume of new and exciting gear that has just come out. We've got a few of them to show off here, and more in other articles this week. Enjoy!

Cervelo P5X

Cervelo's new P5X was launched in fine fashion with a really cool display on Ali'i drive. My favorite thing about the bike is the one-bolt stack adjustment. The pads telescope up and down as a complete unit, like a seatpost. I had some discussion with Cervelo Co-Founder Phil White about disc brakes in general, and although I'm not sold on their appropriateness for triathlon, Cervelo is not the only company marching forward with this theme.

  • On my way to the P5X launch I bumped into Phil White, co-founder of the brand. First thing he did was congratulate me on the Omni, and said he found it to be really impressive. The fact that he even knew it existed was very surreal and humbling. Then we walked over to the P5X launch and chatted about aerodynamics, rim vs disc brakes, and more. Fantastic guy, and an excellent role model for people like me in this business.

Parlee TTR

Parlee made some waves this year when they announced their disc-brake bike, the first in what has become a small wave of disc-equipped tri bikes. They had this colorful one on display.

Misc

  • This reminds me of the movie Abyss.
  • Although it doesn't get the most press, I still really love the QR PRSix. And over the years they have continued to upgrade it with new storage options and improvements to the integrated stem.
