Welcome to the Village!

Walking the expo at Ironman Hawaii is always an interesting experience. Given that this race will receive the fastest athletes the world has to offer, the vendors cater to a rather sophisticated crowd. And every once in a while, you'll even see products shown to the public for the first time right here on the expo floor. That was the case for the new TorHans Aero Z, which is featured below. Enjoy!

  • Welcome to the Village!
  • Andy Potts is always a big name here. And what's that I see ... ?
  • ... I thought I recognized something about his bike!
  • NormaTec had no trouble filling its boots with tired athletes.
  • I'm told that orange energy blocks are 50% more effective than any other color.
  • I also hear orange-colored compression wear is 50% more effective than other colors.
  • Pro Matt Russell was visiting the TorHans guys with his Trek Speed Concept.
  • This is the new TorHans Aero Z - a BTA bottle with some very slick features.
  • The new Aero Z has a snap-on cap that hides a nice splash guard for double-layer protection. It's also the only gravity-fed BTA bottle on the market, meaning the straw attaches all the way at the bottom of the bottle at a low reservoir area, letting you drink every last drop.
  • The Aero Z clicks in to the existing TorHans mount, so existing customers can simply swap out for the new bottle if they prefer.
  • A magnetic ring lets you stow the straw on your extensions, or have it stick up from the bottle for always-available drinking. This thing looks very slick!

  • Although these are just display units and not quite ready for public consumption, I convinced the TorHans guys to let me take one for an early review. Stay tuned!
  • The TorHans guys also had a replica of Andy Starykowicz's Orbea Ordu on hand, complete with their aerobottle and his TriRig Omega front brake!

  • World Bicycle Relief was on hand with a custom-decal disc to promote their noble cause.
  • Tri Bike Transport has been a major headache saver for many athletes.
  • The folks from BOA Closure had a cool display on hand where they would retrofit anyone's shoes with their cables. This isn't a regular service they offer, just a FREE perk to people on the island. Very cool!
  • On the consumer side, you can now buy Zoot shoes with BOA closures. I really want to review these.
  • BOA also offered different colored ratchets to anyone who wanted one.
  • Spotted this P5-Six with ENVE cockpit parts replacing the stock 3T ones.
  • Fizik had some custom-colored saddles on display at the Big Island.
  • Dimond engineer David Morse (formerly of Zipp fame) tuning up a customer's bike before the big day.
  • You never know who you'll bump into on the island, like superstar Ironman champ Heather Jackson (she's not racing this year) ...
  • ... or Pete Jacobs, out to claim another title this year after his 2012 victory.
