In addition to the one-piece suit shown on the previous page, we had Epix make us a two-piece kit, including tri shorts and a full-zip mid-sleeve tri top (they also make a sleeveless version of the same top). They took our final design for the suit, and extended it to the two-piece design. One nice touch was their addition of a graded TR pattern on the sleeves, to match the pattern on the legs and lower torso.
The features are largely the same between this two-piece kit and the one-piece, but adds a pair of zippered pockets on each side of the jersey, big enough for one or two gels each. The fabric makeup is slightly different as well, with breathable panels on front and back of the jersey (instead of just the back, as on the trisuit). It tends not to fit quite as flush on the upper shoulders, since it isn't being snugged downward as the shoulders of the one-piece are, by virtue of its construction. So you get a little more in the way of shoulder wrinkles. And there's a bit more bunching and wrinkling around the waist, again by virtue of construction.
On the other hand, some athletes just prefer a two-piece design. It's certainly easier to deal with for rest room stops. And a two-piece design gives you flexibility to go sleeved or sleeveless, depending on your preference. And one thing I do love here are the sleeves -- they are cut very well and I'd like to see Epix make a sleeved version of the one-piece suit. One request I'd have would be to laser-cut the seams of the sleeves as well, to match the leg grippers. And I might like to see two pockets or even three on the rear, rather than the waist-side pockets. But otherwise, the jersey is a very well-built garment.
Let's hit the jump and conclude our look at this nice custom kit from Epix.
The design process with Epix is fun and collaborative. If you're an artist, you can have a hand in the process, as much or as little as you'd like. If you're not an artist, they'll provide you with unique designs and inspiration based on your input. Here's how our designs evolved.
The suit is my favorite piece of apparel from this custom process. It fits very well, is snug all around but not constrictive, and leaves virtually no wrinkles for the wind to see. The abounds with little features like dual leg pockets, a zipper cover flap up top, a comfy flared collar, and a dual-layer modesty panel in the crotch. This is an excellent racing kit, with custom TriRig design all around.
Two-Piece Kit (Shorts + Tri Jersey)
The two-piece kit offers more flexibility in terms of creature comforts, as well as sleeving options. We had a mid-sleeve kit made, and Epix Gear delivered a beautiful custom design. Still, we have some small nitpicks of the two-piece design versus our preferred one-piece suit, but they are minor.
