Review: Epix Gear Custom GoFierce Kit

The new GoFierce suit is my favorite thing from Epix yet. The cut, the fit, and the fabrics are all simply top-notch. The laser-cut leg grippers stay put perfectly, without being constricting or annoying. Two small leg pockets and one medium-sized rear zipper pocket provide enough to store a few gels or keys.
One thing Epix has kept in every one-piece suit they've designed is the absence of a waistline seam, which I really appreciate. Probably my favorite thing about a trisuit is the absence of a waistline seam, so I don't like buying suits that have them.
The suit has a bevy of nice features, including the laser-cut leg grippers, premium fabrics all around, a single zipper pocket in back, and a leg pocket on each side. It's enough to carry some gels, and can stretch to carry a bit more (Epix told us they've even used the leg pockets to hold soda cans in a pinch). If you're the kind who likes to carry a whole lot of stuff in your jersey, there isn't a lot of high-end racing kit that will satisfy you, as the trend is towards moving storage to the bike for aero reasons. But a couple small items will sit well in the jersey.
All of the apparel made by Epix Gear is printed with a full dye sublimation process, meaning that the ink is soaked into the fabric, not merely sprayed on top. This makes for a durable color that won't crack or wash off. It's a superior process to screen printing, which some apparel makers still use. The colors on this GoFierce jersey are the best and most vibrant I've seen from Epix. The orange really pops, and this is the first time I've seen this level of saturation and vibrancy from a custom dye-sub jersey. It's just beautiful.
The fit is also vastly improved from previous Epix offerings. As Epix told us, their apparel is in a constant state of revision and improvement based on customer feedback from their substantial base. Going a bit more snug makes a lot of sense - it helps reduce wrinkles), which reduces drag. This particular cut fits me like a glove, and I'm just loving it.
Let's hit the jump and check out the two-piece kit.
The design process with Epix is fun and collaborative. If you're an artist, you can have a hand in the process, as much or as little as you'd like. If you're not an artist, they'll provide you with unique designs and inspiration based on your input. Here's how our designs evolved.
The suit is my favorite piece of apparel from this custom process. It fits very well, is snug all around but not constrictive, and leaves virtually no wrinkles for the wind to see. The abounds with little features like dual leg pockets, a zipper cover flap up top, a comfy flared collar, and a dual-layer modesty panel in the crotch. This is an excellent racing kit, with custom TriRig design all around.
Two-Piece Kit (Shorts + Tri Jersey)
The two-piece kit offers more flexibility in terms of creature comforts, as well as sleeving options. We had a mid-sleeve kit made, and Epix Gear delivered a beautiful custom design. Still, we have some small nitpicks of the two-piece design versus our preferred one-piece suit, but they are minor.
