TriRig caught up with Ben Hoffman, the 2014 Ironman World Champion Runner-Up, to chat with him about the upcoming race, and his Kona rig. Hoffman has been really consistent with his setup, riding an almost identical rig for the last couple years. One notable change: he's now rolling on TriRig's Omega X brakes front and rear. He loves the speed, and loves how they work. The champ has been running them on his race bike all year, but didn't yet have them on his Kona rig. He was so confident in the brakes, he let us come and set them up on the new rig just five days before the race. That's how easy and quick the installation goes with the new brakes. We slapped them on, then had a quick talk. Enjoy the video above, and the gallery below.

  • Hoffman's Shiv is locked and loaded. The only change for race day is that the frame-mounted cage will go to the saddle, and the Fuelcell will take its place for some aero storage.

  • The new matte black and grey paint scheme really blends in with the lava rocks. I'd call it Kona Camo.

  • S-Works crank with Quarq power meter. Very lovely crank, state-of-the-art PM.
  • Shimano Dura-Ace drivetrain with Ceramicspeed bearings and jockey wheels.
  • And of course, the TriRig Omega X front and rear. Hoffman has been riding these all year and loves them.

  • A name sticker to ID the bike, and a Retul sticker to mark the saddle height. This has become pretty standard issue for many pros.
  • S-Works aerobar and stem combo up front, with our TriRig Omega X brakes front and rear.

  • Knight 95 carbon clinchers, with Specialized Turbo Cotton 26c tires and Chris King hubs.
  • Hoffman is riding a massive 55t chainring, with an 11-28t cluster in back. He says he'll likely stay in the 55t big ring for the entirety of the race. WOW! 55-28 is definitely not a combo I could ride uphill in Kona, especially with how insanely windy it has been this year.
  • This is what the wind will see on race day.
